Super Kaleidoscopium
BOSL FEATURES - Amazing Sims

The Super Kaleidoscopium is based on technology that allows YouTube videos to be played in-world, simply by typing a video's URL in chat. Thoth began experimenting with media to enhance an existing particle environment. Normal, flat screens didn't provide the effect he was looking for so he began exploring with other prim options. From the desire to enhance his particle environment, the Super Kaleidoscopium was born.

Visitors to the site are encouraged to raise draw distance to 300m, have a seat in one of the oddly positioned chairs, turn on media and go into mouselook as various YouTube videos are played. The setup allows individuals to run the Kaleidoscopium themselves by clicking a player and typing the URL of their choice when prompted, or to just sit back and enjoy the choices of others. The result is a phenomenal 360 degree kaleidoscope effect using the graphics from the videos as the sound plays.

Thoth initially used the site as a gathering point for friends, but soon others received news of the Kaleidoscopium. Now, word of mouth advertising is carrying news of his innovation throughout the grid. Flickrites, Plurkers and Twitterites shared their experiences with photos and SLURLs, even offering suggestions for the best videos to play. I was informed of the creation by Flickr, but Shai Delacroix's Plurk brought in several guests while I was there enjoying the visuals and the company of several great people.

It may not have been Thoth's intention to create Second Life's newest entertainment craze, but he has done it using the creativity that makes this virtual world so amazing. He has proven that there's always more to invent here--always something new to discover--and that's what keeps excitement alive in our metaverse.
